NOVEMBER 2023 WRAP UP
[ loved liked ok no thanks (reread) DNF ]
The Moonstone • Chaos Terminal • (The Raven Boys) • The Ghosts of Trappist • (Fugitive Telemetry) • From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler • The Art of Destiny • The Bell in the Fog • (Exit Strategy) • Who Goes There? • Salt Magic Skin Magic • The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up • (Dracula) • (Rogue Protocol) • The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store • The Boneshaker • The Archive Undying • (The Scorpio Races) • Camilla
Total: 18 (audiobook: 15 / ebook: 3)
I started my month off by finishing my reread of The Scorpio Races on November 1, as is right and proper :) This has consistently been my favorite of Maggie's books, and it never feels right the years that I haven't reread it. I think I hit the right method this year and rather than binging it or following a structured reread (which would be cool, if you could match the timeline of the book) I listened to the audiobook on and off throughout Oct and finished it off in one last burst one the 1st. I think this is some of Maggie's best writing, but I also admit I am no longer able to judge this one objectively and will save you all the sales pitch for now :)
The Archive Undying was...confusing. It wasn't that I couldn't follow what was happening on the sentence level or in the immediate present, but try zooming out to the larger picture and I was lost. It was hazy, very much like a fever dream. I would not be opposed to trying some of the author's other work in the future, but I have no interest in revisiting this book/series, and wouldn't really recommend.
The Boneshaker has been sitting on my bookshelf for years ever since I picked it up at a library book sale, and it's managed to survive every shelf purge since. And I'm glad it did! It's a strange MG/YA book about a girl, her bicycle, a small western town just off a crossroads, a snakeoil salesman, his medicine show, and deals with the devil. It was fascinating! I've been almost tempted to send a copy to Sydnee McElroy just for fun. I will definitely be investigating the author's other series.
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store - I got tempted into this one because the Book Riot Podcast couldn't stop singing it's praises, and then it started making some of the year end/best of lists and... it's ok I guess? I don't really get the hype, tbh, and I got close to DNFing because it just wasn't interesting. I was at least forewarned that the "murder mystery" in the marketing was overblown, but I am here to tell you to ignore its existence completely. There is no mystery, there isn't really even a murder, and it doesn't happen until the end of the book anyway. I fully admit this was just not a book for me, and anyone who wants to read it I wish you well.
Not much to say about my Murderbot reread, other than choosing to give the audiobooks a break and rereading in a text format was an excellent choice, I really feel like I've picked up on a lot of things I didn't before, and it gives me time to think about things (I have some questions about the actual irl existence of rogue secunits, tbh). This is my second full time trough the series, and I think Exit Strategy is maybe the weakest solo link in the original quartet, but that makes me very happy to have the newer books as well. And I have to say it, FUGITIVE TELEMETRY IS BETTER IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.
Dracula Daily wrapped up this month, so I'm probably not the only one to have Dracula show up on their reading list. I listened to most of it via RE: Dracula, which I appreciated so much for helping keep me on track this year. I probably won't follow along next year, but big thanks to everyone for helping me learn to enjoy a book I hated both times I had to read it for school! I'll still be percolating that Greenwing & Dart AU somewhere in the back of my mind in the meantime.
I picked up the idea of "sparking joy" from the general internet and have found it hugely helpful in letting go of things in life, so I've been meaning to pick up The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up for a while, and was finally spurred into it when I picked up a copy at goodwill. I found some actionable advice in Kondo's method, but sooo much of the book felt like a sales pitch on how following this method could fix everything wrong in your life (and I mean *everything*). It left a very bad taste in my mouth - I think a workbook or checklist could be useful, but wouldn't recommend the book itself.
Salt Magic Skin Magic is a historical fantasy with magic, adventure, and a gay romance, which is so entirely in my wheelhouse. It hit all the same points I tend to find/enjoy in KJ Charles' work, and I had such a good time reading this - no surprise, apparently she helped edit this! Thanks to the HOTE discord group for reccing this one, I'll definitely be checking out some of the author's other work!
If you didn't know, Who Goes There? is the short story that the movie The Thing was based on - which I have not seen, but I went on a brief dive into antarctic exploration/horror in anticipation of this month's book club (All the White Spaces, which I actually read for last month but that meeting got delayed) and this popped up pretty quickly. It was available from the library and short, so why not?! The beginning felt a little rough, but I would have loved to see the tension of the main plot drawn out even longer. Liked this a lot better than the actual book club book, but I don't know that I'll watch any of the adaptations.
The Bell in the Fog - Lavender House sequel! I was so glad when this was announced; I love queer books, historical books, a mystery with a lead who actually does some detecting, and a character trying to find themselves and their community? Absolute catnip for me. It also doesn't pull its punches about the violence and injustices faced by the queer community, so it's definitely a bit darker than my usual tastes and will have to try hard to make it onto my favorites list. But if the author continues to write these I will absolutely pick them up.
The Art of Destiny - bless the library for not dragging their heels on the audiobook for this sequel, but lucky me, they did finally add the first book in time for me to get them both in the same year. Unlucky me, this does not appear to be the end of this series D: third book when??? Anyway, I won't deny that these books move a little slowly, but when they move, they move. If you want a big fantasy that's diverse, funny, cartoonish but epically violent, has a cast of all ages, and centers it's story on non-romantic relationships - this is so good, come join me in wailing for a book 3 announcement.
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler has lived in the back of my mind for a while as a favorite childhood book of a booklr friend who is sadly no longer on tumblr, but who I say hi to occasionally on other sites - anyways, I found a copy at goodwill and took it as a sign. This one's for you, Lourdes! If I'd found this as a kid, I probably would have reread it a lot, that's how I was too lol. For now, it was a fine read, but I don't think it'll have a lasting hold. Any fans interested in more middle grade about fine art might check out the Chasing Vermeer series by Blue Balliett.
The Ghosts of Trappist - I think it's impossible for me to not enjoy myself reading this series (NeoG), but this one was a bit of a backslide from the improvements in book 2. On one hand - a very ambitious plot, probably the least soap-operaish of the bunch, and I loved the emotional arcs (and the possible ART/murderbot reference?). On the other - over a dozen pov characters is too too many. my god. I think a tighter focus could have done a world of good, but if this is also where the series wraps up I'd be totally satisfied. I'll definitely check out the author's other series.
I admit, rereading The Scorpio Races sparked something in me and now I'm determined to set off on a full Maggie Stiefvater read/reread, starting with The Raven Boys. I really loved this when it first came out, but my interested petered out as the series progressed and I started college, and I haven't touched the spinoff yet. My impression from the first book is still that Maggie's writing is so goddam beautiful. Her sentences make me want to weep, but for me there's so much focus on the line that I'm constantly losing track of the big picture. I'm still enjoying myself, but I feel like I'm coasting a lot on nostalgia and aesthetic between moments of a story - though is it me, or does she write a lot in scenes/vignettes, rather than a constant flowing story? I've found some success in centering myself by imagining the scenes as depicted by a CW supernatural teen show of my high school years and it's quite lovely, actually - I can't believe the TV show plans got dropped and never picked up again. We'll have to see how the rest of the series goes.
Genuinely, I can't believe that I read Station Eternity earlier this year and that the sequel, Chaos Terminal, is out already. Despite liking the author's first book (Six Wakes) and normally liking the tropes they're playing with here, I did not like the first book. No idea why I read the second one then (hope?), but it was better, definitely! I still didn't like it. No idea if I'll finally call it quits on this series or get lured into another one if it gets written.
The Moonstone was an unexpected surprise! I made it to November still 2 books short on my 6 classics challenge and panicked when the first one ended up dnf'd - what if this one was bad too??? But I really should know better, give me a half decent mystery and entertaining characters, and I'll be fine. And it was epistolary! I had a good time groaning over all of the characters foibles and quirks, even if I spent the whole time just going, Hey Guys? you could avoid all of this if you just let the nice Indian men have their diamond back. Good fun if you like a mystery and have some patience.
My only DNF this month was the previously mentioned classic - from the moment I decided on a classics challenge, I knew I wanted to try something by Frances Burney given how much I liked her novel Evelina. Unfortunately for me, the only one the library had on audiobook was Camilla... and it was 37 hours long. I gave it a shot, but only made it about 3 hours in. I really do applaud Burney for her ability to create characters who are intentionally/unintentionally causing harm even if they sometimes have the best of intentions. It's absurd, truly, but I'm not in a place I can take that right now - especially since the victims were children, and it happened *repeatedly*. I think if I was to try this one again I'd need to take it slowly in small parts.
Am I horribly wrong about anything? Do you have any classics you'd recommend for next year?

12 Hours
Twelve hours. That’s how long they have to make it for. That’s how long they have to fight for. They just need to survive twelve hours in order to see the next day.
Tony is just look for the bastard that killed his parents. Peter just wants to help people make it to see the morning. Thor and Bruce are stranded and just looking for shelter. Sam, Steve, and Bucky are just trying to get to a safe place. Natasha and Clint are leading the resistance.
“Tony this won’t solve anything,” Rhodey told him. Tony ignored him and continued to load the guns he was planning to use tonight. He’s heard this speech before and another time was not going to make him change his mind.
“Tony,” Rhodey said, “Would you just listen to me?” Tony looked up at him.
“I already got this speech from Happy and Pepper. I don’t need to hear it from you either Rhodey.
For years I thought my parents’ death was an accident. I blamed my dad for being the reason I pretty much grew up alone for so many years only to find out it wasn’t a fucking accident. That they were killed! Especially by that bastard. I can’t do much, but at the very least I can do this for them.”
Rhodey sighed. He closed his eyes and tilted his head back before looking back at Tony.
“Then I’m coming with you tonight,” He said. Tony froze. He stopped what he was doing and stared at Rhodey.
“What?”
“You heard me. If I can’t talk you out of this, then I’m going with you. If you don’t find who you’re looking for then at least I can make sure you don’t die tonight. Last thing I want or need is for my best friend to die anytime soon.”
Tony narrowed his eyes. He was trying to detect any sign that Rhodey was lying, but he couldn’t. James Rhodes was being completely honest and serious about this.
“Okay. We have four hours till it starts. Enough time to get you prepared,” Tony said and headed out of the room. Rhodey did not hesitate to follow him out.
When the bell rang Peter jogged over to his locker. There was only four hours before tonight and he had to make sure he was ready. As he grabbed what he needed before leaving his best friends, MJ and Ned, came up to him. MJ leaned against the locker next to him and Ned stood next to her. Peter didn’t have to look at them to know what was coming.
“You don’t have to do this Parker,” MJ said.
“I know MJ, but if I don’t, who will?” He argued. She sighed in frustration.
“We’re fifteen. People our age shouldn’t even be going out tonight!”
“I know that! But innocent people die on this night every year and I just want to help those people. Just because people can’t call for help doesn’t mean I can’t help!”
“Pete we just don’t want you getting hurt,” Ned told him.
Peter closed his locker and looked at his friends. “I’ve been doing this for like three years now guys. I know what I’m doing.”
“People are getting more violent each year. Who knows what could happen,” Ned argued.
“Just trust that I’ll be okay,” He told them. The two shared a skeptical look but reluctantly dropped the subject. Peter smiled gratefully at them for it.
“So how did you guys do on that chemistry test?” Peter asked, deciding to change the topic. The least he could do was take their minds off of it. Though he knew they were both still thinking about it.
Bruce couldn’t stop tapping his foot as his nerves grew. Thor must have sensed it because he took a hand off the wheel to grab Bruce’s hand.
“Don’t be so worried. Everything’s going to be fine,” Thor reassured. Bruce nodded.
“Yeah not like we’re driving into the city four hours before Purge night just because your brother wanted to,” Bruce responded.
“It will be a quick visit. And we’re almost there anyways. Loki just wanted to see the ring and catch up. Thirty minutes at the most then back home,” Thor promised. Bruce let out a deep breath and nodded.
Thor squeezed Bruce’s hand “Worry not Odinson, we’ll be okay tonight.”
Bruce let out a little laugh.
“I’m not Odinson,” Bruce said quietly. Thor grinned.
“Not yet! But by this time next year you will be.”
Bruce smiled and glanced down at his hand. The black ring on Bruce’s left hand was a simple one, yet it meant the world to him. He never thought he’d ever be engaged. Especially to someone as amazing as Thor. But for once Bruce wasn’t complaining. He was going to enjoy and love the relationship he somehow achieved.
“This time next year, but it’s going to be Banner-Odinson,” Bruce told him. Thor glanced at Bruce and sent him a smile.
“Of course. Though I’m not sure how Loki will react knowing I will be accepting the name Banner before Odinson,” Thor joked. Bruce shrugged.
“We could always not tell him and leave it as a surprise,” Bruce suggested. Thor chuckled and pressed a kiss to Bruce’s hand.
“I knew you were the brains in this relationship,” He said.
“And what does that make you?” Bruce teased.
“The lucky bastard that gets to be with you,” Thor said without hesitation. Bruce blushed and hid his face, but he could tell Thor was smiling at him.
“Just shut up and drive Odinson,” Bruce said causing Thor to laugh at him.
Steve and the boys watched the news as they spoke about the Purge. Steve shook his head wondering what the country had come to. Bucky scoffed when he saw tourist coming in for the night.
“Murder tourism? What kind of bullshit is that?” He said. He shook his head and went back to wiping down the counter.
“This is our country boys,” Sam said quietly. It hurt to know that this was the country they lived in. All three of them fought for this country and it did not sit well with them that it had a whole night dedicated for people to get away with crimes like murder. It just wasn’t the country they believed in.
Steve ignored the news not wanting to see the hear about the casualties from last year. He looked up as the door opened and smiled at three kids that came into his store. They greeted Steve then launched into some frantic whispering. Steve watched the news again as the kids walked around. He turned around when the kids had made their way up to the register.
As the kids put down their snacks and drinks he began to ring them up. He noticed one of them kid, a girl, nudge the two boys and nodded towards the tv.
“That’s gonna be twenty-three fifty,” Steve said as he bagged the items. He looked up to see all three teens still watching the television. He glanced to see the news channel playing clips from last year. He quickly grabbed the remote from next to him and turned it off, hoping nothing too graphic came up. They looked back at him and one of the boys gave him paid him for their things.
“Stay safe tonight kids,” Steve said as he gave them the bag. They nodded and walked out of the store quietly.
“Is the store going to be okay tonight?” Bucky asked.
“Checked in with the insurance and I have it covered,” Steve reassured.
“Will we be okay?” Sam asked.
“We always are,” Steve said.
“Doesn’t mean we always will be,” Sam said quietly.
“We will be Sam. It’s gonna be okay. Now you two get to work. We still have another two more hours before we officially close for the night,” Steve told them.
“Come on this way,” Clint said leading a family of three, a mom and two kids, towards one of the free spaces they had.
“You guys get these two mattresses, a few of blankets and pillows, and I’ll also bring you guys a little water and food,” Clint told them. The mother smiled gratefully at him.
“Thank you,” She said quietly. Clint smiled.
“It’s no problem ma’am.” A little giggle interrupted Clint. He looked down at the baby in the mother’s arms and smiled. “I’ll also check to see if we have anything for this little guy.”
“Barton,” Someone called out. Clint turned to see his best friend and partner, Natasha Romanoff, waiting for him. He nodded and walked towards her after saying goodbye to the family.
As Clint joined Nat he heard someone approaching them. He turned around to see the girl that was from the family he just brought in.
“Everything okay?” He asked.
“You guys are Shield right? The anti-Purge group?” She questioned. He nodded.
“I want to join,” She told them. Natasha and Clint shared a look.
“Why do you want to join the resistance?” Clint asked her.
“Because this night is bullshit and I’ve met too many good people who died on this night in the past. And I don’t want my baby brother growing up while this night is still a thing,” She explained. Natasha smirked, clearly impressed by this girl.
“What’s your name kid?” She asked.
“Stella.”
“And how old are you?”
“Sixteen.”
“Sorry kid, we don’t let minors fight. But come back to us if you’re still willing to fight when you’re eighteen,” Clint told her.
“Eighteen.” Stella nodded before making her way back to her mom and brother.
“I like her. She definitely has what it takes,” Nat said. Clint nodded.
“Two years and she’ll join us,” Clint told her. Nat nodded.
“Finish helping that family and come find me. Fury wants us to look over some things before tonight. And we still need to check out some other neighborhoods,” Nat said. Clint nodded. He gave her a kiss on the cheek before walking away.
“Be there in a bit Tasha,” He promised.

Bruh? Girl, you from the south by any chance? The only ppl I know that use that spelling is from down here, haha. Anyway, you're right our parents didn't give a shit about what we do or watch back then. That last part of your au: (God you fucking hate her. Especially when you take a moment to lick the taste of her from your lips.) reminded me so much of the scene where she says "down boy". SMG was such a fuckin tease I love it. Lets not forget "You can put it anywhere".
No actually, midwest! Cornfield and soybean country 🥴 but yeah no back in the day parents gave no fucks about we watched. It was very much "wow mom that movie was really scary" "well I betcha won't watch that again now will you" energy and she was right
And ya know what, since you brought it up, might as well write the bet
////////
You stand over her with an expectant grin, relishing in the high of your newly formed plans.
She looks up at you from where she'd read the article with blank stoney silence.
And then promptly dissolves into a fit of laughter.
"What exactly is so funny?"
"You," she sighs as her chuckles taper off and absently tosses aside your phone. "You're delusional, Clarke."
"How so?"
"This girl is entirely out of your depth."
"No one is out of my depth," you correct as you plant a knee on either side of her hips and settle into her lap. "Show me where I've failed."
You feel hot at the way her hands slide along your thighs. Even more so when a delicate brow flicks up in challenge. "Anyone with an IQ beyond the double digits, I'm sure," she taunts as her touch lingers. "But we're talking Ivy League here. And not a legacy twit."
"And?"
"And," Lexa stresses as she grabs two handfuls of your ass to pull you firmly into the toned plain of her stomach. "And she has a boyfriend."
You hum and rest your arms on her shoulders and give a light roll of your hips. "Yeah. With the biggest dick she's never seen."
The roll of her eyes makes you smile.
"Please, Clarke. She talks like Mary fucking Poppins. She said her favorite author was Sylvia Plath with a straight face, and sounds like a Pride and Prejudice fan's wet dream. I mean she wore a cardigan to an Instagram photoshoot for Christ's sake."
You make a sound of surprise when you're lifted off of her and set to the side on your back. But she's on you in an instant, hands bracing on either side of your head as she looms over you like a lethal hunter and it's prey.
"Girls like that don't fall for your shit. You don't stand a chance."
The warm sweetness of her breath across your face is almost enough to have you do something she'd probably make you regret.
Almost.
"Would you care to make a wager on that?"
That insufferable fucking eyebrow flits up yet again.
She's quiet for longer than you'd expected and you hate it because it means her mind is straying somewhere dangerous. And sure enough when those ridiculously full lips stretch into a pleased smile, you know this probably isn't going anywhere you'll like.
"Alright," she says with impish satisfaction as she leans down to mouth wet kisses along your neck. "If you lose... you give me that hot little car of yours."
You immediately shove her backwards and sit up, scowling as she lands in a fit of giggles against the arm of the couch.
She knows what that car means to you.
It was the only thing your mother bothered to leave you before she'd left. It had been a wedding gift from your grandfather and since she'd been purging her life of all things Griffin, she'd signed it over to your father in the divorce with strict instructions that it be yours on your sixteenth birthday.
Happy fucking birthday.
But still, you told yourself you'd kept it out of sheer spite.
And this little bitch knew it.
"Why would I ever give you my car?" you ask through her dying laughter. "You don't even drive."
"Not the point," Lexa sighs and twists a lock of hair around her fingertips. "I want it. I'd look so hot in it, it'd be worth the parking tickets alone."
You can't truthfully say you disagree.
"And what exactly would I get if I win?" you scoff instead. "You have nothing that even compares to that."
The look she gives you sends shivers up your spine.
You watch her hands dance over her collarbones and caress the sides of her breast. "If you win," Lexa all but whispers, "I'll give you what you've been obsessing over since our parents got married."
You meet her eyes and hate how green they look in the late afternoon sun that slides through the penthouse's second floor windows.
"You're so full of yourself, Lexa."
"Oh spare me," she dismisses you without even having the courtesy to shake her head. "You're a spoiled brat who practically turns chartreuse at the mere thought of things you can't have."
She sits up and crowds into your space. Balances herself with one hand on the back of the cramped tuxedo coach, the other on the strip of cushion between your thighs.
"And I'm the one thing you truly cannot have... without earning it." You swallow at how close she is. How soft her voice is compared to the fire raging in her stare. "So. Should you succeed... you fuck her... and I'll fuck you. That simple."
You consider it for all of two seconds before pushing up from your seat fast enough to have her yanking back. "Not worth it," you call over your shoulder on your way to your room.
"I'll let you top."
That makes you freeze in the doorway.
You're glad you're facing away from her because you can only imagine her reaction to the way you have to bite your lip.
You wheel around and look at her with narrowed eyes.
"Expound."
Long bare legs cross at the knee as Lexa relaxes back, her arms going wide and resting along the full length of the couch.
Her smile is as indulgent as it is predatory when she speaks. "I don't generally allow girls to have me that way. I think it's safe to say you've heard that all too well," she hums. "But if you win... A prize is a prize, Clarke."
"And what if I want to--"
"One full night," she cuts you off, her face turning to the shrewd business woman of her late father's boardroom you've only heard about in passing. "Anything you want. You can fuck me however you want, anywhere you want, as many times as you want. Deal?"
You wag your brow just to be a shit.
"Oh that ass is mine." You stride over and take her hand in a firm shake and return her pleased grin. "You got yourself a bet, baby."
You move to step away but she doesn't let go, instead tightens her grip and stares you down.
"As long as I get a taste too."
It's damn near enough to make you sweat through your suit.
"We'll see when the time comes."
She lets out a single humorless laugh but releases you when you pull back.
"If the time comes," Lexa calls after you. "Happy hunting, Clarke."

Who survives? ○△□
=> Haikyuu edition
Tumblr media
fandoms; haikyuu x squid game
warnings; implied death (nothing graphic) made this one a little more lighthearted for ya
includes; hinata, tendou, goshiki, shirabu, semi, kuroo, kenma, bokuto, kita, atsumu, suna, suguru, oikawa, iwa + mentions of others
a/n; ok so I took a few liberties with this chapter, meaning that what you're about to read are a collection of different scenarios that have been festering in my head-
these scenarios don't necessarily involve the third game itself, but rather what happened in the lobby before that (aka when the players were teaming up). this includes the main cast as well as other players (which to make things simpler I decided to keep nameless)
so im sorry for those who were hoping id write about the game itself, but i tried and you can only write a game of tug of war differently—all while keeping it entertaining— so many times, and to me writing these interactions was just a bit more fun :) just consider this chapter a breather for the next game to come
also do keep in mind that i didn't write for every single character, just the ones that inspired me the most so im sorry if i left your fav out, they shall be back (or not), next time 🙇🏽‍♀️
<= previous, the purge
=> next, the marble game
For the sake of this AU I'm pretending that the characters know nobody except those within their respective volleyball team.
Tumblr media
DAY 3 : TUG OF WAR
Tumblr media
Pairing up...
TEAM 1 :
=> Yamaguchi (012), Tsukishima (011), Hinata (010), Kageyama (009), Yachi (006), Kiyoko (007), Tendou (032), Goshiki (033), Player 281, Player 67
Karasuno were in a bind.
After entering the lobby, the pink soldiers had announced that the next game would require building teams of 10. Naturally, people's first impression was relief, elated that whatever lied ahead, nobody would have to face alone. For Karasuno, the information hadn't been welcomed as positively. The upcoming game was a mystery, that much was true. But upon Tsukishima's observation, they had established that it was most likely going to require strength, given the events of the night before, and to say that Karasuno were at an advantage was far from the truth...
Two girls, four skinny men.
The collective glances that Karasuno shared indicated that everyone was aware of their predicament.
That's when a stranger showed up, his hair a flaming red.
"You!" He cheered, his chesire grin both off-putting and bright. "You're going to win this round, aren't you?"
The crows exchanged looks of confusion, the general consensus being to frown at the oddball before them. With him stood three more players; two with odd haircuts, one with a mean glare.
"Uh.. these guys? Are you sure, Tendou? They look pretty scrawny to me." Spoke one of the weird haircut havers— the one with raven hair.
Hinata— forever the optimist— spoke up first, crossing his arms over his chest with a not-so-intimidating scowl.
"Hey! We may be scrawny but that doesn't mean anything! We don't even know what kind of game we're playing next anyway!"
"The carrot tops right," said the other strange haircut haver— the man with choppy bangs. "We don't. So how can you be so sure they'll win?" He turned his scrutinizing gaze over to 'Tendou', who much to Karasuno's surprise, merely smirked in return.
"I can feel it."
If Karasuno weren't entirely weirded out by these four strangers before, now they most definitely were. Who was this guy? Was he some sort of clairvoyant? Perhaps a charlatan before signing up to these games? Whatever he was, it didn't seem to be welcomed by his three friends (?), who visibly cringed at his claims.
"Are you serious?" Spat the man with choppy bangs, his voice sharp with spite. "You're gonna pair up with a bunch of what are clearly rejects, just because your creepy sixth sense is telling you to? You do realise our lives are on the line, right?"
"Oh, come on!" Yelled another. It had been the first time he spoke since their arrival— the one with the mean eyes and hair like ash. "We don't have time for your guessing games, Tendou! First you go bapshit crazy during the bloodbath, and now you expect us to team up with a load of weak, scrawny high schoolers just because you feel like they're gonna win? You've seriously lost your mind."
Once again, Hinata was about to protest— ready to defend that he and his friends were in fact, not high schoolers— but the man with choppy bangs cut in before he could even open his mouth.
"Semi took the words right out of my mouth. Open your eyes for Christ sake. Look over there for example. Don't you think we'd have a better chance at winning if we teamed up with those guys?" Everyone collectively looked to where he was pointing, noticing a trio of men all tall and about twice as muscular. The sight was actually quite the punch in the gut.
Although, even if Karasuno watched on with envy, Tendou didn't seem all that convinced, his nose turned up defiantly, sighing before turning back to his three teammates.
"Listen, kids. If you don't wanna listen to me, that's your choice. Just know that you're making a very bad decision pairing up with those guys."
"Yeah? Well I guess we'll just have to find out, won't we?"
With that, both the man with choppy bangs and the one with the scary eyes turned on their heel. The third man however, remained exactly where he was.
Tendou rose an eyebrow.
"You not gonna follow them, squirt?"
The raven shook his head, a wobbly look of what seemed like confidence, plastered on his face.
"N-No. I trust your judgement."
Tendou hummed, a contemplative look on his face, only for that same chesire grin to split his features.
"Now that's a good decision~" Then, he turned to Karasuno, eyes bright, voice unwavering.
"Well then, friends. Are we in?"
=> PASSED.
TEAM 7 :
=> Kita (036), Atsumu (038), Osamu (039), Suna (040), Suguru (044), Player 55, Player 78, Player 120, Player 99, Player 79
Upon Kita's request, everyone scattered in order to bring back the strongest looking players they could find.
Suna was the first to spot someone, gaze narrowing on a lone man with green hair. He was a decent size, broad shoulders and toned arms indicating his physical prowess.
"You. You taken?"
Suna didn't bother with a polite greeting, seeing as this player was most likely going to become an enemy once this third game was over. His mindset was to not get close to anyone other than his current teammates and he vowed to stick to that. The player in question whipped his head around at the inquiry, his eyes blinking and mouth seemingly struggling to find his words.
Suna cocked his head, one eyebrow quirked inquisitively.
"Uh, no— I don't have anyone yet. Do you?"
Suna merely grunted, lazily tossing his thumb in the direction of the twins.
"Those two. And there's another guy with us, too— our leader. We're all useful so it's up to you if you wanna join."
His blunt words seemingly left the stranger reeling. However the longer he left Suna waiting, the more impatient he grew. He wanted nothing more than to get this interaction over with, hating the idea of having to pair up with complete strangers. It was a hindrance if you didn't know you could trust them. It could potentially ruin the team's harmony, and consequently put not only him, but his friends in danger. His eyes squinted at the prospect.
"Well?"
"Okay, sure— yes, I'm in."
"Great," he drawled without a hint of sincerity. Thus one recruit was added to the team.
*
The next one to find a new recruit was Atsumu, although his team's first impression wasn't exactly the warmest. For not only had he brought back someone that went against his captain's request— he was practically beaming with pride as he brandished them like a newly acquired, gold trophy.
"Atsumu. Care to explain?" Kita's voice was as cold as ice as he regarded the blonde with a frigid stare.
"Ya said to bring back strong players," he replied plainly, his demeanor unshakable even in face of his former captain's stern gaze.
"Then why is she here?"
Atsumu scowled.
It's true, Kita had specified to preferably only bring back men, just in case the rumors were true and the next game did indeed require strength. However, as Atsumu lurked around the lobby, he couldn't help but stop and stare when a particular woman caught his eye. She had been talking to another group of men, her jacket loose around her shoulders and dipping just below her shoulder blades and if it weren't for the current context, Atsumu would've felt pervy for staring at her for that long. With that being said, it was almost impossible not to— not with the way her back muscles flexed with her every moment, the promenant lines in her arms visible as she revealed them to the group of men, even from where Atsumu stood. She was perfect.
Perfect for the team, that is.
"Another group of guys rejected her so I nabbed her before anyone else could," he said, paying no mind to the way the girl glared at him for his poor choice of wording. "Go on, show 'em."
Elbowing her, Atsumu encouraged her to do the same as she had with the other team. And as she removed her jacket, revealing her broad shoulders and toned upper body, even Kita couldn't mask his surprise.
"Not bad, eh?"
Wincing as the girl jabbed him in the gut, chiding him for talking as though she were some sort of tool, Kita promptly coughed into his fist as he forcefully peeled his gaze away from the woman.
"Of course. I apologize for assumin'. Couldn't tell under yer jacket is all."
And with that, another member was added to the team.
=> PASSED.
TEAM 6 :
=> Aone (041), Futakuchi (042), Koganegawa (043), Shirabu (034), Semi (035), Player 176, Player 201, Player 304, Player 111, Player 98
After leaving Tendou and Goshiki behind, Shirabu and Semi wasted no time in joining the powerful-looking trio. Thankfully, they'd accepted them on the spot as they were missing exactly two players.
"I can't believe that guy. He's completely lost his mind," sneered Shirabu as he glared daggers at his senior from across the room. "Can't believe he'd just leave us for a bunch of strangers."
Beside him, Semi was also watching him, his eyebrows pinched for numerous reasons. The most obvious reason being his upperclassman. He couldn't understand why he did it. Did he seriously think he had a chance of winning with those guys? They didn't look like anything special to him. In fact, they looked like one of the weakest teams in the room. His mind ran other scenarios aswell, such as what if Tendou knew something they didn't? Was the next game not a matter of strength after all? And if so, how come he hadn't said anything to either him or Shirabu?
Or maybe, just maybe Shibaru was correct and Tendou truly had lost his mind. It wasn't that unfeasible considering the events of the night before. Regardless, his senior's final decision left a bitter aftertaste on Semi's tongue.
"Whatever," he sighed. "Let's just hope we all make it through to the next round. We can talk things out then."
=> ELIMINATED.
TEAM 4 :
=> Kuroo (021), Kenma (023), Lev (026), Bokuto (028), Oikawa (008), Iwaizumi (013), Terushima (045) Player 49, Player 295, Player 332
This team was founded relatively quickly. It started off with Kuroo, Kenma and Lev. Then came Oikawa and Iwaizumi, requesting that they join. Followed by Terushima. That meant that they only needed four more players to make a full team. To make things easier, they split into teams of two and decided to each bring back at least one person, save for Kuroo and Kenma who vouched to bring back two. The former being their appointed leader, asked that they choose their person wisely.
"Well?" began Kenma, eyes flitting around the monochrome room as he walked beside Kuroo. "Has anyone caught your eye yet?
"Actually, yeah. See that guy over there?"
As Kuroo came to a stop, Kenma looked over to where his friend was pointing, eyes landing on a lone man with two-toned hair. He had his back facing them but even from where Kenma stood, it was easy to tell just how built he was underneath his jersey, making him a potentially good asset indeed.
"We should probably talk to him first," Kenma suggested. "We don't know for sure if the next game will require strength so we should make sure he's got a minimum of wits, too."
Kuroo nodded. "Good idea."
The two of them began walking over to the player, satisfied that they had found a potential teammate so quickly. But the more Kuroo observed him, the more he couldn't help but notice something odd about him, something off that both piqued his curiosity, and elicited his concern. It was the fact that he wasn't walking, nor carrying himself with the same intent as the other players. Rather, this man seemed to have no intent at all.
His steps were languid, his head shifting from left to right like a child lost in a crowd. What was even more strange, was that whenever he stopped in front of another group of players, he made no move to try and speak to them. Rather, he would stop halfway through his approach, as though he wanted to say something but was unable to commit to the act. This particular characteristic made Kuroo weary at first, wondering if he had made a mistake on zeroing in on this particular player. But as the famous saying goes: one should never judge a book by its cover.
It took two attempts before Kuroo finally caught the stranger's attention. However as the latter shifted his body, granting the duo a full view of his appearance, Kuroo felt like disregarding that idiom completely.
Perhaps he should have judged this particular book by its cover.
Truth be told, he hadn't thought it was possible to look any more tired than him, or any other player from his team. Yet the man before him proved him to be sorely mistaken. It was almost criminal how much greyer he looked compared to the other players he'd had encountered so far; the promenant eyebags sitting beneath his vacant eyes a visible display of his fatigue. Not only that but they were bloodshot and swollen too, which made Kuroo wonder if he had been crying not so long ago.
These factors only made Kuroo worry more. If this man truly was as drained mentally as he appeared physically, then the team would have no use for him and would have to pass him up after all. But being the altruistic captain that he was (or would like to think he was), Kuroo decided to give the stranger the benefit of the doubt and masked his apprehensions behind a respectful smile.
"Hey there," he spoke, one hand raised in greeting. "Have you found a team yet? If not, my friend and I were wondering if you wanted to join ours."
As it had done before, Kuroo's question hung in the air for a little longer than he'd have liked, but he and Kenma tried not to the man's... lackadaisical demeanor throw them off, waiting patiently as the man slowly parted his lips.
"You and... your friend?"
"That's right," nodded Kuroo. "We probably should've introduced ourselves first." Clearing his throat, he motioned to both him and Kenma. "I'm Kuroo Tetsuro and this is Kozume Kenma, but you can just call him Kenma. He isn't fond on the whole last name thing. Right, Kyanma?"
"Please don't call me that."
The latter chuckled as Kenma pointedly rolled his eyes at his childhood friend's old nickname. Meanwhile, the nameless player remained unresponsive, his dim, amber eyes staring at the duo with an undecipherable look.
Kuroo swallowed.
Glancing down at Kenma, the captain internally cringed at the look painted on his face. He deduced that if his former setter's tight-lipped expression had a vocal translation, it would go something along the lines of: "this man is a total lost cause". Yet despite this presumption (which at this point was most likely correct), for some reason Kuroo simply didn't have the heart to turn his back on him on the stranger.
Had he been swayed by the pitiful look on this player's face? Maybe.
...Did it remind him of himself? Eerily so.
It was the same look that stared back at him through the mirror on the day of Yamamoto and Yaku's death. The same look of mental exhaustion, guilt and dread that would most likely still be plastered on his face if not for Kenma. It was his presence that had kept him grounded after everything they'd been through and Kuroo couldn't bare to imagine where he would be now if it weren't for him. Would he be as worse for wear as this guy? Or worse?
"You two seem close." He's roused from his bitter thoughts when the stranger suddenly spoke up after what must've been approaching a minute. After blinking away the rest of his musings, Kuroo replied the first thing that came to mind which in retrospect, probably sounded a bit more aloof than he'd meant to.
"Uh. Yeah. Guess we are."
"And you're sure you want to invite me?"
Kuroo cocked his head. "Sure, why wouldn't I be?"
Upon his inquiry, the player seemed to shrink him on himself, which was strange considering his large stature. "Wouldn't wanna hold you back." He muttered. And at this Kuroo couldn't  help but feel that there was more weight behind that sentence that the man was letting on.
"Nah, 'course you won't," assured Kuroo, a playful smile on his face. "I mean look at you, you're practically bustin' out that jersey of yours." He joked, hoping his light-hearted tone would shift the somber atmosphere that had begun to loom over the trio.
"Ew. Are you flirting with him?" Shot Kenma, his nose wrinkling a tad. "I hope that's not how you plan on recruiting him. That's weird. Even for you, Kuroo."
Feigning hurt, Kuroo placed a hand over his chest before chiming "of course not!". Then as he glanced back at the stranger, worried that his and Kenma's antics may have made him ill at ease, he all but froze when he caught a glimpse of the beginning of a smile forming on the latter's lips.
"I'll join you. If that's still okay," he said, his hand scratching at the back of his neck.
"Of course. That's great news!" replied Kuroo, perhaps a tad too earnestly. Holding his hand out, he then added:  Welcome to the team..."
"Bokuto Koutarou," he replied. The two men shook hands and "Bokuto" grinned. "I won't let you down."
*
The next person to find a new recruit was Oikawa. Although, he wasn't sure if the rest of his teammates would approve. He was told to bring back someone capable looking, perhaps someone strong, someone nimble, or someone brainy if he could somehow figure that out. But when coming across a lone girl sitting at the back of the room, her back pressed against the wall, he began getting second thoughts.
At first he had tried ignoring her presence, turning his body away from her, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't bring himself to just leave her. He'd find himself gravitating towards her, cursing to himself when a heavy feeling settled in his chest whenever he saw her curl in on herself, knees hugged to her chest.
"You saw her too?" Came Iwaizumi's voice. Oikawa pursed his lips at the question, chocolate eyes never once leaving her form. She looked so small, backed into the corner of the completely white room, frowning as the other players walked past her without so much as a single glance.
"Do we leave her?" He murmured, partly to his friend, mostly to himself.
"I doubt the others would be happy if we brought her in," provided Iwa, his voice sounding somewhat regretful.
"What if nobody picks her?"
"Then I guess she's out."
Iwaizumi's response caused a sharp inhale to ripple through Oikawa's chest. Was it worth the risk? Taken her in? All things considered, it wasn't as though they were entirely sure the next game would require strength. For all they knew the next game could be a jungle gym, in which being too heavy could cause a disadvantage.
Who knows... Maybe being petite would come in handy...
"I'll be living with a guilty conscience if we make it and she doesn't," Oikawa spoke firmly. At this point he knew he was simply making up excuses but it was just too cruel to abandon her. He cursed himself for being so soft and to be frank, part of him hoped Iwaizumi would be the one to talk some sense into him. To tell him he was acting reckless by taking such a big risk. Alas, what he responded was quite the opposite and Oikawa of all people should've known from his high school years that Iwaizumi would never turn his back on someone in need.
"I mean, a little bit of chivalry in this hell hole couldn't hurt, right?"
"We'll find out if it does, won't we?"
With this, the two men exchanged a glance, both knowing what their next course of action would entail.
As they walked over to where the girl was sitting, Oikawa crouched down, smiling softly as she cautiously lifted her head.
"Morning, miss. What do you say you join our team?"

I gotta stop listening to musicals when I write/think about writing.
Wanna know what musical AU I spent half the afternoon and all evening thinking about?
A Star Wars/ Sweeny Todd AU.
(It fits so well and I'm so mad! Naturally I have to share)
I've split the roles as such:
Sweeny Todd - Anakin
Lucy Barker - Padme
Mrs Lovette - Obi-Wan
The Judge - Palpatine
Beedle Bamford - (still figuring out this AUs Vader stand in)
Johanna - Leia (and Luke)
Anthony- Han
Plot under the cut because this got longer than I expected.
In this AU Anakin isn't the one Palpatine got his claws into and corrupted, but he's a big enough pain in the ass that Palpy ships him off to a prison planet for a life sentence. Anakin may or may not have traded his life/freedom to keep a very pregnant Padme safe and to keep Obi-Wan safe from the currently occuring Jedi purges.
Fast forward 19 years, Anakin's managed to escape prison (albeit later than he ever intended) and gets picked up by a young smuggler who also happens to be on his way to Coruscant. Han doesn't much care about whatever revenge quest Anakin's on, just so long as he gets paid for it, but the crazy guys story keeps him entertained at least.
Once back on Coruscant, Anakin makes a beeline for what feels like Home. He finds Obi-Wan scraping out a living under a fake name. They hardly recognize each other at first, nearly twenty years hasn't been kind to either of them, but the Force knows. Naturally. Anakin's first ask is about his wife and child. Where are they?
Deeply regretful, Obi-Wan tells Anakin about how with everything that happened, his prison sentence, the fall of the Republic, the purging of the Jedi, well, losing her husband just before giving birth... even someone as strong as Padme had her breaking point. She poisoned herself.
And the baby? Anakin asks. Were they killed too? Was it a girl? He had been so certain if was a girl.
Obi-Wan then tells him he does have a daughter, and a son. They were born before Padme broke. But the Emperor took them away just after their birth. He sensed their potential.
Anakin then vows revenge. He vows to rescue his children and avenge his wife. He will not rest until Palpatine's head has been severed by his own lightsaber, which Obi-Wan has managed to keep safe all these years.
Meanwhile, Han's doing his thing on Coruscant and happens to look at two of the most beautiful people he's ever seen. The wards of the Emperor, he's told by an old beggar woman, the Prince and Princess, an untouchable pair. Han would be better off falling for the stars as they are more easily reached.
To which Han says "challenge accepted" and manages to break into the Imperial compound and meet Luke and Leia. He quickly learns they're being kept against their will, they're unhappy, they're abused, and even worse, there have been rumors of marrying them off. The twins can't stand the thought of ever being separated.
Han is all "heart eyes, I'll do literally anything to help free you. Hang on, can you wait a couple days? I met this crazy old man who was muttering about Jedi bullshit, maybe he can help too. Let me go ask him."
Cue Han finding Anakin again and explaining about the twins, and Anakin, ever so subtly, is 100% down to storm the Imperial palace on his own. To which Obi-Wan steps in and says "wait. Let's make an actual plan."
So they do.
It takes time, but they make a solid plan how to get into the palace and get the twins out safely and also give Anakin a shot at his revenge on Palpatine. And hey, this crazy old beggar woman keeps hanging around their shop, claiming she knows them. Much of the public health care has been gutted since the Empire took over, Obi-wan explains with great pity. There's just no care for people like her anymore. It's best to be kind, but ya know, don't actually listen to anything she says.
The day of The Plan comes, and it starts to go off without a hitch. Han is able to get in and break out the twins, and take them back to the crazy old Jedis’ shop to wait until they can safely get off Coruscant and far away from the Empire. Meanwhile, Anakin is able to lure Palpatine and the Vader Stand-in away from the safety of the Palace by basically using Anakin as “surprise bitch, I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me” bait. But as they’re waiting for Palpy and Co to show up, the crazy beggar woman gets in the way, and too impatient to deal with her and also definitely in a murdery mood, Anakin kills her quickly. And none too soon as Palpy and his attack dog have arrived.
He and Obi-Wan fight them together, just like back in the old days, and Anakin finally gets his long awaited revenge and kills the Emperor. With his revenge satisfied, Anakin turns to the poor woman he killed, filled with regret for taking an innocent life. Obi-Wan is uncharacteristically insistent that Anakin leave her, they have to get back to the twins, but Anakin at least wants to get a proper look at her face.
It’s with great horror that he recognizes her face. It’s Padme.
Cue Anakin shouting at Obi-Wan “You lied to me! From the moment I got home you knew Padme lived!”
To which you have ‘from a certain point of view’ Obi-Wan Kenobi responding “No, I never lied. I said she poisoned herself, never died. But she was beyond help, Anakin. I tried. but after she lost the twins it was too much for her. And. And. And.” he tries explaining but it ends up devolving into crying “Yes I lied because I love you! I did everything to protect you, Anakin!”
And it looks like Anakin understands, like he accepts fate. And he goes to thank Obi-Wan, to embrace him and ends up driving his saber blade through Obi-Wan’s heart. With only one more loose end to tie up, Anakin goes back to the shop for his children. because there is absolutely no way he’ll ever let a smuggler take away his children.
Of course, Han isn’t one to go down without a fight, and when the crazy Jedi guy shows back up living up to his ‘crazy’ title and threatening him, Han does what Han does. He shoots first.
Anakin was too far gone by that point to register that the smuggler might shoot him and doesn’t block the shot.
Thus ends the tale of Anakin Skywalker.

Somehow, in the last couple of weeks I got a slew of new people coming to my blog and hit 1k followers(○□○). I’m beyond shocked. Like, I’m pretty sure 90% of you are bots or inactives but to those that are breathing: hello, and thanks for sticking with me! I’m stoke and humbled by your presence especially those that been with me for so long now. I may not know you personally but you know me. Maybe not very well since I’m intensely private and all I do is ramble about my accursed writing habits lmao but!!!! You’re here anyway despite everything and I’m very grateful for your constant support.
So to welcome to new people and because I don’t I ever did any introduction post before.
Hello, I’m kewltie. QT. Trina. That girl who keep starting shit and never finishing it a;sjdf;alsjdf;alsjdfa. I’M TRYING. Anyway, here are a few notable things about me and this blog in case you wanna make sure this is someone you wanna, ya know, stick around:
this is my writing blog. so all you’ll see are huge block of texts from either teasers of stuff im currently working or random pieces that im in the mood for but mostly it’s just me complaining about writing sobs.
i’m in my mid 20s and have been in fandom since i was like preteen. LJ-era, so yea im a fandom oldie. over a decade of experience here.
since i have been through several fandom purges bc of ya know censored ship ://///  im very much YKINMK aka Your Kink Is Not My Kink but your kink is okay!!! i dont care for your problematic kinks or ships bc i have my own so yea im cool with you if you are cool with me.
i live in socal so i come off as US-centric sometimes but im vietnamese.
bnha is the fandom im writing and most active in but im in like a gazillion fandom. a hyperbole but kinda true?? supernatural, hannibal, voltron, harry potter, 1D, kpop, marvel, sherlock, etc. but you won’t see any of those fandom post here since i only write for ONE fandom at a time bc i cant focus on anything else /o\ lol.
i swear a lot. like, A LOT. regularly, religiously like every twenty words out of my mouth is a fuck you. it doesn’t mean anything honestly. i just do it when im being overly emotional so when im exicited, upset, sad, etc.
im overly emotional and sensitive w/ a truck load of anxiety and crippling self esteem.... so i dont do well interacting w/ people. mostly. i try tho!!!!! i mainly just keep to myself and stay in my corner of the fandom. i dont care for fandom drama or anything like that. i just want to read and write in peace. kthx.
when i make a post on here it’ll mostly be in lowercase, mostly in caps, abuse the word like, and use a lot of exclamation point like 90% of the time.
i identified as queer. and maybe demisexual/grey-ace??? idk sexuality is confusing and im still figuring it all out but i know at least im comfortable with the label queer.
i dont write smut for personal reason. maybe one day in the future but its’ not for me right now. dont have a problem reading it but writing is impossible for me.
i dabbled in all genres. i dont really have a specific genre/niceh i personally enjoy more than the rest or specialized in. i love fantasy, scifi, horror, romance, kinks etc etc. so you’ll find me producing just about anything. you may get trash rom com one day, epic space opera the next, fantastical tales of gods and magic after that, some dark twisted shit later, and anything really when the mood strike me.
i write for MYSELF. everything i ever produce is bc i wanted it so i did it. so if a fic idea is terrible is only bc I HAVE TERRIBLE TASTES.
im a very whimsical writer. i write demanding largely on my mood and whatever strike my fancy so it’s all RANDOM which also mean i procrastinate and have a long list of WIPs. i never run out of ideas so that’s the big problem sobs.
im a voracious reader. if i have to chose b/t writing or reading, it would be reading EVERYTIME YOU ASK ME. i have a semi-secret ao3 reading account with 1k+ bookmarks across various fandoms. it’s my pride and joy!!!!!!!!!!! i love reading fanfic so much T_____T.
i am a media junkie. i love reading comics (manhwa, manga, webtoons, manhua, etc), watch kdrama/cdramas, love nature/space docu series, tv-shows, etc etc so that leak a lot into my writing. whatever im reading/watching can have influence my reading like wanting to write a gazillion palace aus bc i can’t stop burning through chinese palace/harem dramas.
i may not be good w/ people but i hope i come off as easy and chill bc i really am!!!! honestly im more afraid of you than you are of me so uh, hi and you’re rad and thanks so much for following me even though i dont think im worth your time lmao /o\. I DONT WANT TO DISAPPOINT YOU BUT I KNOW I WILL. uh, like i said paper thin self esteem.

Some modern AU Estelle headcanons:
Her relationship with her parents is... complicated.  They’re very wealthy and love her very much, but they are also very controlling and strict. Throughout her childhood, she rarely had a moment to herself not controlled by scheduled activities (which she never got to choose for herself), monitored playdates (with the children of her parents’ friends rather than choosing her own friends), and the understanding that all significant choices would be made for her, “for her own good”
Her parents threatened to cut her off if she didn’t keep living at home during univeristy, but she got a scholarship and lives in residence.  They still email and call her incessently and urge her to come home and try to micromanage her life from a distance
She told them she was bi when she was 16. They said “Don’t be silly, you’re not that kind of girl” and the subject hasn’t come up since.
She’s majoring in English.  She loves Jane Austen and Emily Dickenson, but she also loves JK Rowling, Scott Westerfeld, and Gail Carson Levine
She doesn’t want to talk about her trashy YA paranormal romance phase. She recognizes that the books she liked when she was 14/15 are actually pretty bad, though she still has a soft sport for them
And don’t bring up self-insert fanfiction; she only recently purged her old romance fic from AO3
She still writes fanfiction, though.  Original fiction, too.  She gets really into shipping.
Estelle loves musicals and some of her favourite childhood memories are of seeing shows on Broadway. She really likes Phantom of the Opera but has strong negative opinions about Cats.  Her dorm room walls are plastered with broadway posters
Her room is also full of succulents and little cacti.  She loves potted plants, but has found that these are the only ones she doesn’t kill.
Lots of stuffed animals on her bed
She plays piano. Her parents signed her up for lessons when she was six, but she actually really enjoys this one and it’s one of the few after-school activities they forced on her that she doesn’t resent.
She travelled a lot as a kid, but only to resorts or shopping districts.  She has a big map on her wall of all the places she wants to go and really visit, seeing the people and the culture and the museums.  She’s saving up for a grand trip after she graduates.
Loves crossword puzzles and has strong feelings about ridiculous clues
She cries every time she watches The Fox and the Hound
Her music consists of an even mix of bubbly pop music, showtunes, Disney music, and classical piano pieces.

it seems that you didn't reblog the ask meme BUT I'M STILL GONNA ASK haha feel free to do only the ones you want: 6, 8, 9, 10, 33, 44
GIRL I DIDN’T REBLOG IT BECAUSE I SPENT THE MAJORITY OF THE DAY WASTING MY WRITING TIME ON SKATER BOYS!
but i guess ill answer since theyre here now XD
6) My fave show at the moment.... uuuuuh.... I really like that new 911 show that just started on Fox. It’s by the guy that does AHS and it’s about first responders, and has all the awesome actors like Angela Bassett, Connie Britton and Peter Krause. if you saw me talking about an au last week about a firefighter and a 911 operator, this is where the idea came from lol
8) My fave subject in school was English, which should come as a shock to literally no one. Well, I think technically band/color guard was my fave but I don’t think that really counts XD My least fave was math even though I was randomly good at it 🙄 Like, I was taking geometry in 8th grade, and had technically completed my high school math credits by the end of freshman year. But math is also the worst thing that has happened to me so yeah, fuck math.
9) Plans for the future. Wooooow, this is getting deep. The realest of real talk, I don’t know? If you’d asked me this question a few years ago, I’d have told you the plan was to move to LA, become a kickass music journalist and one day make my own music magazine that focused on touring. (Think Almost Famous turned into a magazine.) But then I actually went to LA and was a music journalist and wound up hating just about everything I had planned on for my life. Which is just fantastic, ya know? sarcasm btw Then I got really into baking and cooking so I thought maybe I’d go back to school for culinary arts and then I could write for food magazines and shit. Except the idea of going back to school makes me want to die. So, long story short.... I don’t know. I’m kinda living one day at a time at the moment. The only thing I know I for sure want to do is publish something, but I don’t want to do that until I can create something that truly feels like it could stand the test of paper and ink.
10) If I could travel anywhere, I’d def go to Japan. I’ve always wanted to go and see where my grandma grew up and take in the amazing culture and the food. I’d also really love to go to London, and I would kill to go to Germany again since now I’m old enough to take part in all the fun stuff lol
33) I joined tumblr in 2009 so I could blog about how my then best friend was driving me fucking crazy without him finding out since he followed me literally everywhere else. And then he joined tumblr a couple months later and I had to purge everything anyway T.T in case you were wondering it would take almost a year and a half before we finally cut ties
44) What do I think of you/your tumblr? I think you’re freakin’ awesome dude! I can always count on you when I’m trying to procrastinate-- and apparently when I’m not trying to XD-- and I know if I ever need to talk to someone, you’re there! I also now know if I need a flamethrower, I know who to go to lmao.

lazaefair replied to your post “THE GREATEST @bebeocho TAGGED ME FOR A THING!!!<333 thank you so much,...”
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE ADVENTURES OF ASTRELA XYLEN. A+ Mary Sue naming skills, by the way. What color were her eyes?
her eyes, as you might have suspected, were ice blue.
(MORE OC SILLINESS UNDER THE CUT BC I CAN’T HELP MYSELF!!! bless you for asking, honestly<333)
astrela xylen (who was not actually a self-insert, believe it or not!) was a 12-year-old imrani, a humanoid race of force-sensitive aliens i made up who lived on a colder-than-earth planet in the unknown regions. 13-year-old obi-wan kenobi and his master, qui-gon jinn (from the jedi apprentice era - a series of books i highly recommend regardless of whether you’re writing mary sues!!) are attacked by pirates and find themselves lost in the unknown regions, their ship incapacitated. they crash land on imran and are met by a scouting party of teens and kids - one of whom is astrela.
BASICALLY the entire rest of the fic, which i posted for a while over at the Pit but never finished, was an excuse for me to world-build endlessly and write obi-wan mingling with my entire village of OCs, with a nebulous endgame of a) bringing imran into the republic and b) GETTIN’ YOUNG OBI-WAN WITH MY GIRL!!!!!
astrela was not just force-sensitive with white-and-silver hair and ice blue eyes - she was (i cringe very hard) albino. all the other imrani had dark eyes and black hair with white stripes. astrela was very good with mechanical things and would eventually grow up to be a jedi who specialized in memorizing schematics for ships and weaponry and using the Force to disable critical components inside them. when the empire came to power, she escaped the purge with a few younglings, which she took to safehouses across the galaxy (she might’ve taken some back to imran? i can’t remember the details) and then continued on as a saboteur against the empire in disguise as a rogue named litika dor. her inevitably tragic end was to trace obi-wan, eventually, to tatooine, where she lived with him for a short time before falling ill from something native to the planet and dying in his sad sand-hermit hut.
AND TO CAP THIS ALL OFF I WENT DUMPSTER-DIVING IN MY OLD SKETCHBOOKS FOR YOU GUYS. the oldest stuff i have that’s worth showing is from ‘03.
Tumblr media
lol what. you think i DIDN’T invent an entire alphabet (standard and cursive!!) for this world-building experiment??
Tumblr media
from around the same time; she’s meant to be younger here, about the age she was in the story. her face got broader and her eyes wider-set over time, untilllll...
Tumblr media
this is apparently some kind of modern-au bs, from ‘07. i had just got an industrial piercing myself, so naturally she got one too. no hair-stripes i think bc i must not have had a reference for the pattern (oh yeah, each person’s hair stripes are totally unique, like fingerprints).
annnnd last but not least, closeup of her Very Special lightsaber. i didn’t finish the handgrip cause i was sick of drawing curved lines over and over XD

THERE YOU GO, BET YOU’RE SORRY YOU ASKED, AREN’T YA
